This past saturday I awoke to find that a beautiful fog had found it’s way into our neighborhood. I grabbed my canon with one lens (mistake) and was out the door. I’ve never thought nature photography was my bag of tea but I actually rather enjoyed myself. The fog was mysterious and comforting in a way that I did not expect. It was quite in a very divine sort of way that put me at ease and placed me quickly in the creative zone. So attached below is my first attempt at nature photography. Just God, me, my camera and fog. Enjoy.

Lindsay and Daniel have such delightful personalities. We started this photo shoot with them running late and when using the last couple of of hours of sun light, time is precious. We frantically ran all over the city trying to take advantage of the remaining light. They were such good sports, having a great time, smiling and laughing. We even got lost once trying to make it to one of the locations. I kept my cool but inside I was nervous because if there is no light, my options are limited. Lindsay and Daniel though were just two love birds, loving the day, loving the shoot, loving each other, and loving me. Ah, the chemistry of being engaged. We closed out the evening having dinner together and Daniel and I both had a mahi mahi sandwich that was out of this world good; not to mention the garlic fries. MMM!
It was another great night of photography and new friendships. Enjoy.

A few weeks back I traveled to Cincinnati to do engagement photos with Andy and Mandy. I met these two at a wedding I did in Nebraska. Andy and I hit off after we found out that we both worked for the evil monster that is Guitar Center. We even worked at the same store. He came on just weeks after I left and so we knew many of the same people way back when. Man, it seems like ages ago.

A big thank you goes out to Michael Wilson for letting me use his studio space. Michael has been a friend for many years and is in my book considered a master photographer. He’s been a big influence in my medium format black and white work. It was a wonderful and humble studio to work in. The windows were northern light and Michael had two different walls on wheels to use. The wall could serve as a background or a big giant bounce card.

Loved working with these two. I’m looking forward too shooting their wedding in July.

Again, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything. I so want to get a new custom blog and that’s the reason for the lack of posts. I’ve decided that instead of just having the blog be idle, I may as well keep posting until the new blog arrives.

This post will center around a recent trip to Cincinnati. I have a great friend there named Kore Flatmo. He just so happens to be a world renowned tattoo artist. No joke. His clients fly in from all over the world to get private sessions from him. I used to play chess with Kore before he exploded onto the scene and that’s how I know him. So I was able to get my dear friend Josh Motlong a sitting with Kore. It’s not easy to get work from him, he has an extensive waiting list. Josh jumped in committing to a half sleeve. I documented this process for josh. Attached below are just a few photos from Josh’s 5 hour sitting. The portrait that is connected to this is not of Kore. It’s actually a picture of his apprentice, Rob. I thought is was a great portrait and wanted to post it along with the sitting. Enjoy.

Hi All,

So sorry for the lack of posts. It’s not that I’ve had nothing to show but really that I’m dissatisfied with my blog and how it handles photos. I’m currently in the process of trying to have a custom blog that will showcase my work in a higher quality look. It’s been a slow process as I’ve learned that having a custom blog can be pretty expensive. For now you can view 5 new captures from my day of shooting with Hampton & Hanely. I’m so excited to be able to work with these guys. There is a real depth to their music that requires the listener to go on a journey. I like that. Big things to come from these boys for sure. Early this week I did some capture in the home of Joel and Anna Sorge. Joel and Anna are such wonderful people. Just the short time that I had with them made me wish that I knew them more. Quality people for sure. Their boy Noah has the longest eyelashes in the world and bright blue eyes that are as inviting as a clear blue pool in the heat of summer. Their daughter Audry is as cute as the come! A real beauty with a personality that wins your heart in just seconds. Below are just a few of the black and white photos that I was really proud of. I think my favorite of these, if I had to chose, would be the photo of Audry. The profile and the way that the light fell and how the wind took her hair. I just find this shot to be beautiful in a mysterious way.

On a side note. I know I’ve been posting a lot of black and white medium format. What can I say, I love the square images. I feel like they bring an element of art to the photo that the 4×6 lacks. I have to be honest, I’m not actually shoot with a medium format camera and I do crop the images to get this look. But I can’t afford a $18,000 digital medium format camera. So for now, I’ll continue to crop and love this format. Someday though I hope to make the purchase.

This past monday I had the great opportunity to work with one of my favorite worship leaders here at IHOP. Justin Rizzo. He has a new CD coming out in early fall called “Found Faithful”. I love the songs that Justin writes! When he is leading worship with his songs, it seems so easy for my heart to enter in and go somewhere with God. I’ve been wanting him to release a CD for a long time now and now that it’s finally happening, I can’t believe how blessed I am to actually be apart of the project by taking photos. I’m super excited that I’m able to be connected in a small way to what I’m sure will be a most excellent release. The next CD that I hope will happen in the future is a worship CD from Joanna Reyburn. I hope your reading this Joanna!

These picts are from my second photo shoot with these two. The first shoot we did had bad weather and so we all decided to go for it again at the next grand available evening. We made our way towards the world war memorial and began to have some fun. I thought this shoot really captured some of the romance that these two have for each other. I love this location. It’s always seems to present new angles and ways to see the light.

Shady is such a gentle man. Very soft spoken and polite and you know he’s a smooth operator too have won the heart of Ruth. Ruth is a shining star for sure. Purity comes to mind when I think about her. She seems to have such a clean spirit and it shows. This is a match made in heaven and I can’t wait to share some of the photos from their wedding in a future post. For now I hope you enjoy these quick picks.
